Each figure carries what it has always carried. The centaur holds the tension between instinct and reason. The harpy moves without warning. The sphinx does not give the answer, only the question. The siren reminds you what you are capable of wanting. Triton raises the water whether you are ready or not. The nereid knows the way through. The satyr knows what excess costs.

Worn together on a single garment, they function as they always have. A talisman.
